Expert review of Wine tasting on Pelješac
Dalmatia produces some excellent wines, with the most highly esteemed reds coming from Pelješac peninsular. Here, the plavac mali grape produces three different sorts of red - Dingač, Postup, and Plavac - depending on the soil and topography of the vineyards it grows in. The very top red, Dingač, is produced on steep south-west seaward facing slopes, affording maximum exposure to the sun. If you are staying on Korčula, take a ferry over to Pelješac to learn more in the company of local wine producer Mario Bartulović. He will take you to the nearby Miloš Winery in Ponikve and the Grgić Winery in Trstenik, and finally show you his own vineyards in Prizdrina and let you taste his wines in an old-fashioned stonewalled konoba (wine cellar), accompanied by a traditional Dalmatian lunch.
Expect to pay 880 kuna per person for a group of two to four persons, or 660 kuna per person for five to eight persons. These prices include the guide, tastings at each of the wineries, and lunch.
