Expert review of La Fontanilla Beach
A diverse cross section of people make this town centre beach a dynamic day out.
I love the fact that La Fontanilla is pleasantly raucous and buzzing with people of all ages and nationalities thanks to being just a minute’s walk from the main shopping street, business centre, the town’s pleasure port and countless residential buildings. Probably due to its central location, and the fact that it’s backed by a promenade lined with cafés and bars, it’s equally as popular with locals as it is with holidaymakers. It’s not unusual to see a group of lawyers who’ve just finished work and slipped into their beach attire sunbathing next to a holidaying northern European family having a go at jet-skiing.
Price advice:
The sunbeds are five euros each and include a parasol, but of course, lying on the sand is free. The bars and restaurants vary as much in price as they do in choice.
Expert tips:
If you’re driving, park in the underground car park, 100 metres from the beach, on Avenida del Mar - right next to the Alameda Park.
You’ll need to get there early if you want to sit on the edge of the water.
