This blinding all-white marble church is a beacon of Lisbon's Renaissance era.

Filled with blue-and-white azulejo tiles, panels telling the La Fontaine fables, royal tombs and a stunning ivory statue of Jesus, this is one of Europe's more historic and ornate churches. Found in one of the capital's more peaceful corners, Garça, from where views across the city and river are spectacular, this is a lovely spot if you're seeking a little spiritual serenity.

Price advice: 

Entry is four euros for adults, and two euros for children.

Hop on the number 28 tram up to this church to take in more sites en route.
