Best for Escapists - Expert review of Loch Lomond
Simply stunning: I’ve driven the road to Loch Lomond more times than I care to remember but I’ll never, ever get bored of it. Justifiably famous throughout the world in songs, poems and romance novels, Loch Lomond is a stunning teacup-shaped lake flanked by the Trossachs National Park on one side and a string of charming villages, rustic pubs and hotels on the other. Only a forty minute drive north west of the city (about 25 miles), it is within easy reach as a day trip by either car, bus or train to Balloch and it is surrounded by a number of worthy detours including loch cruises, majestic castles, remote beaches (yes, they really do exist!) and historic hotel hideaways. I’m counting the days until my next trip.
A number of tours are available, including the highly recommended Timberbush Tours and Rabbie’s Tours, which normally include Loch Lomond on a visit to Stirling and the Trossachs.
