Expert review of Il Fiordo
This is a lovely walk that we were taken on by Alfonso Imperato, the charming General Manager of the Furore Inn Resort hotel. He has even helpfully created a url link so that you can see exactly where the walk starts. It runs down the mountain just behind the hotel and, on its path of 944 steps (he's counted them), passes by an old pasta factory, a bakery (empty), and continues along the Salita Portella, where some scenes from Rossellini's film L'Amorewere. Carrying along you'll also pass by two monazzeni (fishermen's cottages) – one now known as 'Villa del Dottore' that belonged to Rossellini, and the other 'Villa della Storta' that belonged to actress Anna Magnani, his lover at the time.
Once you arrive at the fjord you can nip into the little café/restaurant for lunch and then take a turn around the small museum that is devoted to the history of the manufacture of paper, which was a particularly important industry in the area, thanks to the abundance of fast-flowing water from the fjord.
