Expert review of Museo Galileo (Science Museum)
Florence's Science Museum is a good place to take the kids.
Testament to the fact that Florence played an important part in the history of science, this is a good place to take bored kids on a rainy day. The ground floor is filled with a wonderful array of instruments to measure time and distance, sundials and astrolobes, a selection of Galileo’s telescopes and the lens with which the great man discovered Jupiter’s four moons. Upstairs, some of the machines used to demonstrate various principals of physics actually work while other rooms are dedicated to medicine with ancient anatomical wax models and a gruesome-looking selection of old surgical instruments.
