Roath Park

Roath Park is actually a series of green public areas and gardens that stretch south easterly through the city, broken only by occasional roads. The headliner in the lush leafy line-up is Roath Park boating lake, but you can find great moments of natural beauty throughout. From the wonderfully overgrown Wild Gardens right the way down to the quaint Victorian air and pretty attention to detail in Waterloo Gardens, Roath Park is known to all who live in Cardiff, but not so well known to the first time visitors as it’s a little off the beaten city centre track.

The park has been awarded twelve Champion Tree awards by the Tree Register of the British Islaes and is home to a botanical conservatory, tennis courts, an ornamental garden, conservation islands, sports pitches, a waterside cafe, bowling greens and over 100 elegant-but-boisterous swans. It’s also home to a lighthouse to commemorate Captain Scott’s tragic voyage to the Antarctic that set sail from Cardiff in 1910.
