The home of Germany’s parliament boasts a lot of history and great views.
The Reichstag is the seat of the German Parliament and a famous Berlin landmark. The building has immense historical significance. For example, the fire started here on February 17th, 1933 that the Nazis blamed on the German Communist Party still remains a mystery. But the consequence remains: the Nazis used the fire as an excuse to begin mass arrests of anyone dubbed a threat to the government, thus ending democracy in Germany. Today the Reichstag is rebuilt and home to reunified Germany’s parliament. The building is capped with a large glass dome, which offers a sweeping view of Berlin. Tours are given daily and there’s a gallery for observing parliament in action.
Expert tips:
Arrive extremely early to avoid the queues - which are routinely among the largest in Berlin. Booking a tour is also a way to avoid the long lines.
Use the West Portal (West B) to enter the dome.
90-minute guided tours are available when Parliament is not sitting by advanced reservation.
Other guided tours are offered daily (when Parliament is not sitting) at 10.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
The rooftop restaurant east of the dome is open daily from 9am-4.30pm and 6.30pm-midnight. Reservations are recommended.
