Best for History - Expert review of Amsterdam Historisch Museum
Spread over a number of interconnected buildings in the heart of medieval Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Historisch Museum is often overlooked. It's packed with a wonderfully diverse range of displays. My personal highlights are the fascinating maps revealing the growth of the city, the exquisite model ships, and the gory Golden Age paintings of anatomy lessons. The modern section is engaging, too, with a mock-up of a famous Amsterdam bar run by a lesbian, and infomation about the infamous Provos of the 1960s.
10 euros; over 65s 7.5 euros, children 6-18 5 euros; under 6s free. Also I amsterdam Card and Museumkaart holders free.

The interactive displays are wonderful and give good, easily understood information about how Amsterdam grew.
We wished we'd been able to spend more time here and will make a return visit next time we visit Amsterdam.
