Read full expert reviewCardiff isn't shy of places to eat. And while the usual chain restaurants are often sadly over-subscribed, scratch the surface and there are some great places tucked away outside of town - most notably in the Pontcanna area just west of the centre.
Being a capital city, almost every nationality of plate can be served, but you're in extra luck if you like Italian or Indian cuisine - there are hundreds of both, and the competition has led to some really spectacular restaurants. There's also a really impressive national pride among many establishments, each one cherishing local produce and I've noticed a significant rise in vegetarian establishments. The best of which are all recommended on this list.
I've gorged my way around Cardiff for years and it's been difficult refining this selection down to 20. From quick eats to luxuriant splash-outs, each one of the restaurants on this list suits a different occasion or mood and excels in its field. I've been sure to highlight some of the city's most long-loved places as well as some of its freshest faces, each one adding to Cardiff's grand selection of international menus. If you've experienced a different service at any of these restaurants, or have one you'd like to recommend, please let me know.
