Expert review of Enrique Becerra
Enrique Becerra is both a restaurateur and author, and his love of Andalusian cuisine is apparent in all of the market-fresh dishes he creates.
It offers traditional Andalusian cuisine, and also some of the best chips outside of Harry Ramsden's. I love sharing a plate of the asparagus flamenquins, which are breaded and deep-fried pork, cheese and asparagus rolls. The moroccan-style lamb and honey stew is melt in your mouth delicious, and the garlicky grilled beef tenderloin “al Marquez” comes with the aforementioned chips.
It's a very traditional looking bar in a restored 18th-century house - you'll even see some original marble columns from Italica, no doubt ill-gotten in their day but we can't blame Enrique for that. Now that they have expanded the bar area downstairs it's much easier to squeeze in for some tapas, and there are two dining rooms (the main one is upstairs) if you want to try the full-service menu.
Service is smart and professional.
It is centrally located just behind the Plaza Nueva.
Tapas on the menu cost between 3-3.50 euros, while the daily special tapas (usually about 6 euros) cost a bit more. Larger plates (raciones) start at 10 euros. In the restaurant expect to pay about 40-50 euros per person, including a bottle of wine.
