Expert review of Plein Sud
Although it's located at the Smyth TriBeCa hotel, Plein Sud considers itself a neighborhood eatery. Looking at the clientele and how devoted they are to the gastronomic creations of chef Ed Cotton, I would say they are on point. The food is French, by way of Provence, and everything is really delicious.
French, with a focus on the south, so it's heavy on fish and herbs. The wine list is French-centric but very fairly priced.
I am a big poisson cru fan and Plein Sud's doesn't disappoint. The French-Tahitian dish features raw hamachi and avocado. The poulet roti forestiere is one of the main course highlights and the stuffed chicken is hearty and filling without being too heavy.
This is a place you can take your date, your family, your parents or your friends. It's a free-for-all when it comes to the clientele. Locals of all ages frequent the restaurant.
Service is spot on. Your order is taken quickly and the waiting staff always offer a smile.
At the Smyth TriBeCa on West Broadway. It's the busiest part of usually quiet TriBeCa and close to the subway.
Dinner will set you back about $80 for two. Brunch is more affordable and the food is just as good, about $50 for two.
