Expert review of Ofrenda
Ofrenda means 'gift' in Spanish and the owners of Ofrenda have gifted the village with authentic Mexican fare in a cozy and elegant setting. The 46-seat cocina serves flavorful food, showcasing the cuisine of Mazatlan, where the chef is from. It's one of my favorite Mexican spots downtown.
It's modern Mexican fare and top quality. A variety of fresh salsas are available. The cocktails mainly feature tequila and mezcal. Mexican beers and sodas are also on the list.
Brunch features a bunch of great egg dishes such as fried eggs with ham and green peas. I like to head there for dinner and enjoy the aguachile de Mazatlan, which is shrimp carpaccio, cucumbers and serrano pepper. I also like the cauliflower fricasee and grilled Mexican squash, they are choice side orders.
The interior is warm, mainly due to the earthy tones used, but even more so for the wonderful crowd. This is a place to go to get away from the pretentious hoards.
The service is excellent. The staff are waiting patiently for your next request and the food comes out of the kitchen quickly.
In a busy part of the village. There are a bunch of boisterous restaurants and bars in the area and the Christopher Street subway stop is a block away.
No dish on the menu is more than $20, making this a very affordable place to take the parents or a date.
