Best for Gourmets - Expert review of Ristorante Cracco
This particular restaurant is only three years old, but it is already listed among the world’s top 50 restaurants, with two Michelin stars. With a reputation to rival Heston Blumenthal, Carlo Cracco is an innovative superstar, using his roots in classic French and Italian cuisine with a hint of oriental fusion, and enormous creative flair to combine exciting new flavours and styles.
There are classic dishes such as risottos - beautifully presented and perfumed with coriander - but look out for innovations as well, such as the peas and grilled sea snails or the chocolate cream with black olives and caper ice cream. Presentation is perfection and the winelist is like an encyclopedia, with some 1,800 labels to choose from.
The atmosphere is one of restrained elegance: cherry wood panelled walls, crisp white linen and almost club-like armchairs at the tables. This is a place to relax and concentrate on the food, not chatter excitedly.
Service is professional, but not terribly friendly.
The restaurant is in the Quadrilatero d'Oro, a few minutes' walk from the Duomo.
Prices are not cheap. If you want to go to town, there is a 10-course tasting menu at a whopping 200 euros per person.
