Expert review of Villa Tiberio
Better Italian food than I've had in Rome, set in a Marbella palazzo amidst mature gardens.
This is one of the first places I think of when I want to go for a special meal in Marbella. The elegant driveway (where an attendant greets you) takes you up to the grand entrance and into the sophisticated atmosphere of the classical Italian villa. Set amongst lush, well-kept gardens, and a stone’s throw from the old-school glamour of the Marbella Club, Villa Tiberio has been the informed choice for Italian food lovers for two decades. The walls are lined with images of its former guests, including the Prince of Monaco, Sean Connery and Shirley Bassey.
Food and drink:
The pasta and the sauces are as fresh and as bursting with flavour as anything I have had in Italy. Besides the exquisite pasta - fettucine salmone being my favourite - specialities include porchetta alla Villa Tiberio (crispy roast suckling pig) and baby lamb braised in Barola wine. The wine cellar, overwhelmingly Italian-influenced, is extensive with a good price range.
Ambience:
The live classical piano music, the grandiose Roman statues and the large marble tables make you feel as though you’re attending a well-heeled garden party in Florence.
Service:
Sandro Morello, the owner, looks after you as though you were guests in his own home. And he has trained the staff to do the same.
Location:
It's in what was once a desirable private villa, surrounded by tall trees, near the Marbella Club on Marbella’s Golden Mile.
Price advice:
It generally works out to be about 50 euros per person, but naturally this could leap up depending on the wine you order.
