Best for Value for money - Expert review of Citron
This is the Malaga restaurant I always fall back on when I don’t want to risk having an average meal with friends who come to visit. With a youngish, hip waiting team, imaginatively presented Mediterranean/Asian/Scandinavian-fusion food, and trendy/arty atmosphere, you’re always guaranteed a good time at Citron.
The menu is not extensive but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in quality and taste. Personal favourites include the oven-baked, chilli-seasoned provolone cheese with fresh bread as a starter; and either the chicken or prawn wok for a main. Do not leave with out trying the Death By Chocolate brownie, which is served with red berries and cream. The wine cellar specialises in Spanish and New World wines. The Basa sauvignon blanc comes highly recommended. There are daily specials too.
It reminds me of the restaurants you’d find in New York. The stripped oak floorboards, the ingeniously painted walls (which blend seamlessly from emerald greens and sunshine yellows, to ruby reds), and the reclaimed wood furniture make it feel timeless and very hip.
It's informal yet professional from a cool, urbanite team.
It's in a corner townhouse on Plaza de la Merced - where Picasso was born.
A two-course meal will cost around 40 euros a head.
