Expert review of Jameos del Agua
The subterranean volcanic tunnel is Lanzarote's most impressive tourist attraction where a bar, restaurant and even a dance floor have been designed as part of the landscape at either end of a beautiful blue lake. Have a sandwich or a drink here during the day when visiting the sight, but ideally try to come back in the evening for dinner (only on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) and even a dance.
During the day tuck into simple sandwiches washed down with a coffee or cold beer. At night, the underground kitchen manages to produce elaborate meals of Spanish and international dishes. Expect all the old favourites: grilled fish, steaks and classic Spanish dishes, such as tapas and tortilla.
Where else in the world can you eat next to the still waters of an underground lake with a volcanic cave as backdrop? The atmosphere here is restful and sophisticated.
The waiting staff work very hard here and I have always found them to be efficient and helpful.
It's just north of Arrieta, close to the coast, on the road to Orzola.
Sandwiches sell for around 5 euros during the day. In the evening, main courses are around 15 euros to 20 euros.
All of the tables are wonderfully located; if you were picky you could ask for one next to the lake. Note that sometimes this venue is closed for private functions in the evening, so make sure to enquire in advance.
