Expert review of Konoba Kopačina
An old fashioned konoba serving excellent local lamb in a hill village on the island of Brač.
Lying just off the main road between Supetar and Bol, Konoba Kopačina was opened by the Jugović family in the year 2000. It’s a little off the beaten track, but is much loved by locals, as well as the few foreign visitors who are lucky enough to find it. It’s friendly, authentic and offers excellent value for money, being especially noted for its delicious lamb - the island’s sheep graze on scanty rocky pastures, giving the meat a discreet flavour of wild rosemary.
Food and drink:
Konoba Kopačina is renowned across the island for its good food. Come here for skuta (a fresh cheese similar to ricotta made from sheep’s milk), whole spit roast lamb, sausages, steak with porcini mushrooms, and hearty lamb or veal stews prepared under a peka (a metal dome, used to cover casserole pots slow-cooking on glowing embers). They also offer seasonal specialities, such as wild asparagus and broad beans in spring. There are good local wines too.

I came here specifically to try the janjetina (roast lamb) and loved it.
Ambience:
Out front, there’s a lovely south-facing covered terrace lined with wooden tables, which afford views over Brač rocky interior and are especially lovely at sunset. Indoors, there are two dining areas, a cosy old one with heavy wooden tables and benches, and a newer one, which is functional but slightly lacking in character.

It has friendly and attentive service.
Location:
In the hill village of Donji Humac, it's just off the main road between Supetar (8 km) and Bol (29 km).
Price advice:
Two people can eat extremely well for 400 kuna.
Tables to book:
I’d certainly reserve a table outside on the terrace rather than in the dining room - try to come in time for the sunset.
