Best for Outdoor dining - Expert review of Yemanja
I have been to Yemanja so many times over the past five years I’ve lost count. From summer to winter and everything in between, I’ve tried almost everything on the menu, I’ve dined with friends, family and even a supermodel here and it never fails to impress. Gorgeous views, rustic chic surroundings and amazing food. My advice? Just go!
The menu is predominantly Mediterranean with a definite Ibicenco flair, with most produce sourced here on the island. Spanish rice dishes, fresh seafood, a limited selection of meats and big hearty salads, there’s something for everyone.
The paella is hands down one of the island’s best and most famous, but for something different you could try the fideua, a variation on paella made with small pasta noodles. I love the succulent, fleshy John Dory (Gallo), served with amazing patatas a la pobre (poor man’s potato, crispy fried with garlic and green pepper) or the grilled chicken salad on a hot summer day. To wash it all down, Yemanja is also famous for their sangria de cava, made with sparkling white wine and tons of chunky fruit.
This is a seriously laidback beachside setting. You can’t help but relax, and know you’re on holiday here, surrounded by a very mixed crowd that at any given moment could be families, wedding parties, couples, locals, celebrities, DJs, footballers and farmers.
Always attentive and helpful, though on very busy summer days you may find food and drinks take a little longer to arrive at your table.
Yemanja is the very first restaurant on the left hand side as you drive into the breathtaking cove of Cala Jondal. It’s right next door to the famous Blue Marlin, even featuring sunbeds on its pebbly shores for those who arrive early enough.
Most dishes are an average of between 18 and 25 euros and paella, fideua and John Dory has a minimum of two people per order.
Sun worshippers will love the loungers, where you can have five-star food delivered directly to your thatched umbrella, while more serious diners will love the tables on the sand. In the winter, there’s a cosy fireplace indoors that’s nice to snuggle up in front of.
Yemanja is a sister restaurant to the beautiful Plaza Del Sol in the UNESCO World Heritage Listed site of Dalt Vila, serving a similar menu in the ancient walled city.
