Expert review of La Sarten
La Sarten is one of my favourite restaurants in Benahavis, a quaint village which clings to the hillside near Estepona. Benahavis is known as the gastronomic hub of Andalucia as there are more gourmet restaurants in this white-washed pueblo than anywhere else. What keeps me coming back to La Sarten (which means ‘the frying pan’) is the unfeasibly high quality of the food, especially the meat, and the make-yourself-at-home atmosphere.
Where to begin? The stuffed roasted peppers (which are served in a frying pan) are always a good bet. I normally follow them with a tender steak served with a hearty jacket potato and fresh vegetables. There’s a standard and a specials wine list to choose from.
There’s a chatty vibe as guests relax on big wooden chairs, around generously-sized oak tables in the rustic-style dining room or on the roof terrace.
It’s a family-owned affair and the waiters, most of whom have been here since it opened, make you feel part of their inner circle.
It's in the heart of the village of Benahavis. It’s well signposted from Estepona and takes about 10 minutes by car.
Depending on what you order, a two-course meal with wine will cost about 40 euros a head.
