Expert review of Meson La Jordana
This restaurant, that has served royalty and celebrities, is one of the most respected on the island. In operation for more than 20 years, Meson La Jordana continues to serve excellent food. I like it for its old school atmosphere: think wooden beams and starched white linen tablecloths, with a menu that spotlights local cuisine.
The food here is good, unadulterated Spanish cuisine that has been served up for centuries. Suckling pig, wild boar, fish and flambés are some of the stalwarts here.
I tend to go for the garlic prawns or the homemade pate to start with, both of which never disappoint. The fish always seems to be superbly fresh; otherwise I recommend any of the meat or game. Dessert has to be a flambé.
A bit like the traditional home cooking it serves up, this restaurant has a lovely friendly, family feel, although it does get busy and a little noisy sometimes.
Waiting staff here are always on the ball and seem practically unflappable, even on busy nights.
It's in the commercial centre, next to Hotetur Lanzarote Bay, in the centre of the resort.
Food prices are very reasonable here, considering the high standards. Expect to pay around 15 euros for a main course.
I like the tables on the spacious terrace, although these won't suit everyone as they tend to attract smokers.
