Best for Families - Expert review of Café Roux
I'm a Café Roux regular. It's an easy eating spot that welcomes kids and pets with open arms - there's a play area close by for those of us at the table with little people and the atmosphere is always friendly and laid back. And, if entertainer extraordinaire Dan is playing (usually on Sunday afternoons), more's the pleasure.
You'll find comfort grub with a contemporary and utterly unpretentious slant here - think gourmet sandwiches, a pasta of the day and a hearty curries. Easy drinking wines are on the wine list.
For breakfast try the filled-to-the-brim farmer's omelette or a bowl of warm honeyed oats if it's chilly. I'm a fan of the Asian noodle salad but I'm partial to the giant burger too.
This is a lively spot where parents come to reclaim their sanity and kids run free. Family run, the commitment to marrying a laid-back atmosphere with efficiency is exemplary.
The le Roux's have empowered many local community members and their enthusiasm is palpable.
In Noordhoek Farm Village, a local shopping, eating and hotel precinct in rural surrounds.
Average main courses are 75 rand.
The outside terrace is the place to be in the summer months - book a table if you're thinking of coming down for weekend lunch.
A sister eatery, The Toad in the Village is a smart pub serving pizza and robust eats.
