Fine-foods delicatessen — ideal for picnic supplies.
A treasure trove for foodies, this delicatessen sells all manner of picnic goodies hand-cooked/prepared by owner Claire Fontaine — you’ll pass her tiny kitchen on exiting the shop.
Food and drink:
The counter groans with quiches, flans, salads, cheeses, and freshly prepared sandwiches, tarts and cakes. Behind the servers, shelves stretch to the ceiling and bear bottles of olive oil, jams, specialist salts and sirops.
Recommended dishes:
If it hasn’t run out (try and get there early), you must buy a slice of Claire’s tarte tatin — utter heaven!
Ambience:
Like a farmyard larder: dried roses and fruit hang from the ceiling and walls, jar and bottles cover every surface and the sweet smell of tarts fills the air.
Service:
Blond and spectacled Claire is incredibly warm and greets regular clients with ‘cou cou ma belle.’ It gets very busy at lunchtimes, so try and avoid peak times.
Location:
Just off Grand Sablon square, down the road from Le Perroquet.

Soup 3 euros, sandwiches 5 euros.
