Expert review of El Mero
This fish restaurant is a stalwart of excellence with an apt backdrop.
El Mero has been one of the Costa del Sol’s favourite fish and seafood restaurants for more than two decades. What keeps me, and many other locals, heading back is the sheer variety and the undeniable quality on offer. Oh, and the views over the award-winning marina are the stuff of a brochure photographer's dream.
Food and drink:
I cannot recommend highly enough the sea bass or the swordfish. The oysters are pretty damn good too. The selection of wines is extensive and carefully handpicked, with more than one recommendation for every dish.
Ambience:
Its modern interior, with big windows and marble floors, makes it feel quite sparse and a little vacuous. The terrace gets a little more atmospheric as people opt for the tables with the best views.
Service:
I have had both good and average service here. They do seem to take better care of you if they think you’re going to spend a lot of money.
Location:
It's in the heart of the marina, with arguably the best views of any restaurant in the vicinity.
Price advice:
What’s the old adage? "You get what you pay for!" And it’s certainly true here. The sea bass, for example, is 40 euros but worth every cent.
