Glamorous European fare with an unbeatable view across Tiananmen Square.

After a decade of success with M on the Bund in Shanghai, owner Michelle introduced her finely-honed brand of Euro-glamour to Beijing in 2010. Embossed tableware, imported Nepalese rugs, VIP service, open fireplaces, and wow, that view. Gazing out beyond Qianmen Gate to the stately halls and towers that surround the world’s most iconic public space … it’s enough to make anybody feel like a somebody.

Food and drink: 

Casual fine dining, Capital M does hearty and straightforward particularly well, from a giant fillet of Norwegian salmon to the deliciously juicy signature suckling pig. And don’t miss ‘M’s Truly Grand Dessert Platter’ – dozens of dainty pastries and puddings surrounding a giant slice of pavlova.

Ambience: 

Classy and seductive. The outdoor terrace is a romantic setting for evening cocktails or champagne.

Service: 

Impeccable.  Manager Espen is one of the best in town, friendly and welcoming and always makes an effort to get to know guests personally.

Location: 

At the north entrance to newly restored Qianmen Avenue (Qianmen subway station, Line 2).

Price advice: 

Set lunch and afternoon tea are a more affordable way to get the full 'M' experience than dinner. Expect dinner for two with wine to cost upwards of 1000 RMB.
