Expert review of Ginger
Run by a Scot, a Brit, a Catalan and a Palestinian (which sounds like the beginning of a bad joke), Ginger is a favoured spot for a last drink among the cognoscenti, and is probably my favourite bar in the Barri Gòtic.
As well as cocktails and a great list of mostly Catalan lines (one of the owners, Pam, produces her own sparkling red, La Pamelita), you’ll also find some tasty tapas, from the basic pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato) with charcuterie and cheese, to a delicious millefeuille made with wild mushrooms.
The layout of the bar is delightfully twisty, with plenty of quiet corners for lovers’ trysts, and there are a couple of mezzanines (advisable in a group). The seating is comfortable buttercup-yellow leather armchairs and the lighting is low.
Almost everyone working behind both bars (there are two entrances, with a bar adjacent to each one) speaks English and is happy to advise you on what to order.
At the fork of two streets, where they meet the pretty little Plaça Sant Just.
Tapas dishes start at around 5 euros.
