Expert review of Gansevoort Park Avenue
The stretch of Park Avenue in the Upper 20s is probably my least favorite part of Manhattan. The area has little to recommend it. Why would anyone want to head here for a night out? The Gansevoort Hotel Group must have thought it was an interesting location because they opened their second New York City hotel in the area. They must have known something I didn't because the occupancy rates have been pretty solid. The hotel has added vigor to an area that didn't have much going for it but a few good Indian restaurants.
This stretch of Park Avenue is pretty desolate at night. Head over to Lexington for some great Indian dining options.
The hotel has 249 sleek and chic rooms and suites. Most run about 400 square feet or higher. The carpeted rooms have loft-like ceilings, 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, large windows, plush couches and striped chairs and colorful design flourishes (mainly on the curtains or bed throws). Suites have patios, floor-to-ceiling windows and kitchenettes, something that is of value for families with children. Marble and glass-tiled bathrooms are expansive and have modern fixtures and Cutler Salon products.

Purple chandeliers, large columns and striped chairs dominate the large lobby. I was particularly drawn to the metallic check-in desk.
The Gansevoort knew that to have myriad dining and drinking options helps your bottom line. Why head elsewhere when you have it all here? The bi-level Twenty33 bar is a great place to start the night. Head to Asellina for healthy Italian fare in a 10,000-square-foot space. End the night at the Plunge Rooftop Bar + Lounge. The view rivals that of the rooftop bar at the Gansevoort's sister property downtown.
Exhale Spa is one of the area's best. You can't stop at one treatment. The fitness center is fairly large and offers the best equipment as well as a great view of the streets below. The rooftop also features a pool that is open in the summer.
Service is pretty good, even if you sometimes have to wait during the mid-day check-in rush.

Couples, families with older children and singles.
You won't find many deals here. The smallest room category is the best option unless you are a larger party.
