Expert review of Gran Hotel Elba Estepona
A classy Estepona treat with all the trimmings for that special holiday to remember.
The Gran Hotel Elba really does live up to the "Grand" in its name. The minute I first entered the reception area, I got the sense that I was in for a treat. An ornate and impressive chandelier hangs from the ceiling, surrounded by inviting and comfortable furnishings. It is a fitting introduction to a quality five-star hotel.
Location:
The Elba lies on the beachfront on the outskirts of Estepona, adjacent to the main dual carriageway the runs the length of the Costa del Sol.
Bedrooms:
There are 138 luxury double rooms and 65 suites. All have wonderful sea views and are equipped with free internet WiFi access, air-conditioning, interactive TV and a mini-bar. All rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated but if you're nearer the front of the hotel, you can sometimes hear the hum of the traffic. I would go for the so-called luxury double rooms, which have superb terraces. There is 24-hour room service.

Public areas:
There are several bars including a piano bar, lobby bar, pool bar and cocktail bar. I also liked the quiet reading room and library off in a quiet corner, which was a great place to have a quiet hour or forty winks.
Eating and drinking:
Food and drink take on an entirely new dimension at the Elba with its three themed restaurants plus another, more informal, international-style restaurant. They claim to use mostly local ingredients, and dishes are cooked with flair and are imaginatively presented.
Leisure facilities:
If you are looking for a spa on the Costa del Sol, the Elba’s Thalasso spa is an excellent choice. It incorporates the most modern concepts in today’s health treatments, with Jacuzzis, water beds, saunas, Turkish baths, thermal pools and ‘aroma showers’, as well as a Japanese garden and ‘eco-bar’. In a nutshell, it's one of the most unique spas on the Costa del Sol. I also liked the fact that the Elba has a great outdoor pool, as well as a heated indoor pool, which is separated for adults and children.
Service:
Five star treatment from five star staff just about sums it up.

Price advice:
The luxury doubles are good value in winter.
Pros:
Everything you would expect from a five-star hotel, excellent service, great food ,spacious and well equipped accommodation
Cons:
The hotel is located a little too close to the main highway and depending which room you stay in, you can experience some traffic noise
