Expert review of Villa Giardino
Each summer the golden shingle expanse of Zlatni Rat, Croatia’s most photographed beach, pulls hundreds of visitors. Most end up staying in one of several big modern purpose-built hotels nearby, but if you want something more homely, I’d suggest this family-run b&b in the village of Bol.
The hotel is a five-minute walk from the harbourfront in the village of Bol on Brač, a 20-minute walk to the glorious Zlatni Rat beach (also served by miniature train).
Five spacious rooms, simply furnished with some antique pieces, floral curtains and carpeted floors, plus en-suite bathrooms. Note that some, but not all the rooms, have sea views.

The lush gardens are beautifully kept, with a raised stone terrace for breakfast al fresco - kids will love playing here too. There’s a cosy breakfast room with a black-and-white tile floor and pot plants for chilly mornings.
A hearty breakfast of locally-sourced products, including freshly baked bread, seasonal fruit and delicious honey.
None but the owners can help you arrange local sports activities such as scuba diving, windsurfing and hiking. Zlatni Rat beach lies a 20-minute walk away down a lovely tree-lined avenue.
Friendly, welcoming and attentive owners and staff, happy to give local recommendations for things to see and do.
